Born and bred in South Wales, Jay is Welsh and proud! Described as creative, driven and a ambitious, his style on radio has won made him a familiar name with listeners all across Wales
Jay is currently part of the team at Nation Broadcasting which operates seven commercial radio stations in Wales and London and divides his time presenting, hosting events and ceremony’s, voicing commercials and appearing on stage and television.
Jay Curtis grew up in the Swansea Valley and his career within the industry began whilst still in school, writing as a freelance Reporter with Newsquest Media Group for his local newspaper.
Before long his enthusiasm, and ability to interact with a broad range of people resulted in a move from print to radio, working freelance with BBC Radio Wales and Radio Cymru for a number of station tours across Wales during the Summer.
These events included the ‘Big Buzz’, ‘Pembrokeshire County Show’ and ‘Pop In to the Park’ in Singleton Park Swansea and this familiarity gave him the opportunity to join Afan FM, a community radio station serving the Neath Port Talbot county borough.
After mastering the skills needed, Jay went on to become a familiar voice in South Wales as the Breakfast Presenter on Swansea Bay Radio and Drivetime on Bridge FM nearly 9 years ago, where he built up a large following with his cheerful style.
He has remained at the company ever since, and can now be hard all across Wales on his simulcast Breakfast Show on Radio Carmarthenshire, Scarlet FM, and Radio Ceredigion every weekday morning, plus on Radio Pembrokeshire during the afternoon.
When he isn’t live, his warm, and friendly voice is also often used to record a number of Radio and Television commercials including his role as the ‘Voice of Wales’ for the tourism commercials ‘Visit Wales’ which are broadcast worldwide to promote the country to the global market.
For many years Jay has also had a successful association with Theatre, appearing in his first stage production ‘Oliver’ aged 7. He’s continued to work in Theatre across Wales ever since including his role as Barrister Brogan-More in the Agatha Christie’s novel ‘Witness for the Prosecution’ with the Bill Kenwright Company, and recently as Dandini in the family pantomime ‘Cinderella’ at the Lyric Theatre, Carmarthen.
In recent years Jay has also appeared in a number of Television programmes including Casualty, Dr Who, Sherlock, Merlin and a variety of welsh Drama’s such as his role as Phil Prys in Pobol Y Cwm. He’s also a regular TV presenter from his very first pilot on Channel 4’s Shark V’s Bear with Matthew Kelly, to a variety of Red Carpet Interviews and appearances on both local and national broadcasters.
His film credits also include small appearances in films such as ‘The Edge of Love’ with Keira Knightley & Sienna Miller, the film adaption of ‘Resistance’ with Michael Sheen, and projects such as ‘The Passion’ and ‘ We‘re here because’ with the National Theatre of Wales.
In recent years, Jay has combined presenting with a return to journalism, accepting a role at ‘Swansea Life Magazine’ as a columnist and later as a contributor to ‘County Life Magazine’ for the Daily Mail Group in Wales.
He’s also been the familiar face of Sky Sports HD after being selected from thousands to front the launch of 3D TV and the football, Tennis & Golf campaign across the UK on busses, trains, billboards and the London underground.
These days he can also be seen hosting the home fixtures at the BT Sports Arena at Parc Y Scarlets, Llanelli, and is a regular host of charity evenings, award ceremonies, and high profile events right across Wales.
At the end of 2016 he appeared on ‘1000 Heartbeats’, a British daytime game show that has aired on ITV, hosted by Vernon Kay which was followed by an appeared alongside Ben Shephard as a contestant on ITV Tipping Point.
He can currently be heard weekday mornings with his own sense of style and addictive personality.co-hosting the Breakfast Show with Mark and Brogan and along with the latest travel news, showbiz, and sport on Bridge FM, Swansea Bay Radio, Radio Carmarthenshire, Radio Pembrokeshire and Radio Ceredigion.
He also produces the Breakfast Show on Nation Radio along with several shows on Thames Radio.
